Posts: 784 09/05/05 11:02 AM	Tags : None Well, I doubt this will get as much attention as the same thread on the men's side, but I thought I'd start it anyhow given BJF's observation that no one has talked about anything on the ladies' side since the season started. The Lady Falcons opened up at Randolph Macon, and dominated them 6-0. Shots were 34-5 in favor of the Falcons, and the Falcons goalies only had to make 1 save, while RM's goalie made 12 in addition to surrendering the 6 goals. Obviously since I wasn't at the game, I can't offer much real insight, except to note that freshman Kacie Klynstra seems to have won a starting spot in the back. Given that this team didn't really have any openings, that says something. Don't know how often I'll be able to add much of substance here, as I don't get out to nearly as many of the women's games as I do the men. I do hope to catch the home opener next weekend against Salisbury.

Posts: 296 09/05/05 11:29 AM	Looking at the box score, a couple of things caught my eye. The 6 goals were scored by 6 different players, 3 off the bench. Messiah played 24 players. Messiah had 20 shots on goal out of 34 shots. I really do not have a sense of how good or bad Randolph Macon is, but it looks like the Lady Falcons have gotten off to a good start.

Posts: 784 09/05/05 12:27 PM	A little research tells me that, while Randolph Macon is hardly a Final Four team, a 6-0 victory against them is an excellent way to open up. RMC graduated 3 seniors from a team that went 13-5-1 and 7-4 in the ODAC last year. The ODAC was solid last year, and Macon lost to several quality teams by a 1-0 margin. It is very much worth noting that Macon gave up only 12 goals all of last year, never surrendering more than 2 in any one game. So pouring in 6 against them is a nice start to the season, particularly given that the Falcons struggles (relative term of course) have always been on the offensive end under Coach Frey. I also think it noteworthy that the Falcons have beefed up their regular season schedule this year, with Mary Washington, their quarterfinal opponent from last year, and Oneonta State, the 2003 champions and a quarterfinalists last year. That's always been my biggest concern with the ladies. They have these dominant regular seasons, but since they weren't playing anyone particularly noteworthy, there was always the question of how good they really were. In fairness to them, given the fact that there is considerably less parity in the women's game right now, they really don't have the luxury of going out and loading up their schedule the way the men do. I mean, they could get 4-5 big time non-conference opponents the way the guys usually do, but chances are 3 or 4 of them would be the same teams they see in the NCAAs every year.

Posts: 296 09/15/05 07:47 AM	The lady falcons continue their winning ways with a win over Muhlenberg last night by a score of 5 to 1. From reading the write up on Muhlenberg's website, the Mules scored first early in the came when messiah failed to clear a ball. After the early score, though, the game must have been all Messiah. Shots ended up being 28 to 1 in favor of the Falcons. Corner kicks were in Messah's favor 8 to 0

Posts: 784 09/15/05 09:53 PM	Does anyone know anything about what happened to Hannah Levesque? I don't see any mention of an injury in the writeups or anything, but according to the stats she only played in the opener. If she's going to miss significant time, that's a huge blow to the Falcons.

Posts: 784 09/17/05 04:16 PM	Messiah defeats Mary Washington today 3-0 in a rematch of last year's national quarterfinal, which Messiah also won by a 3-0 tally. In fact, the stats indicate a very similar game.

Posts: 296 09/22/05 07:24 AM	The Falcons continued their undefeated streak with a 1-0 win over Gettysburg last night. The only score came in the 8th minute. I thought Messiah looked pretty good in the middle third of the field, moving the ball at will. They just seemed to have trouble generating scoring opportunities. They tallied just 9 shots on the night.

Posts: 784 09/22/05 08:59 PM	Have you recalled any of the details of Hannah Levesque's injury or seen any updates? Losing your All-American forward and (I think) 2nd leading goal scorer from a season ago is going to put a dent in the offense.

Posts: 296 09/23/05 07:12 AM	I did find that program. Apparently it was a knee injury suffered in a collision with the keeper. It didn't make it sound like a season ending injury, but I've not heard or read anything more recent than that.

Posts: 784 09/24/05 09:29 PM	Huge win for the Lady Falcons out in Ohio today, 3-1 over Denison in a matchup of the #1 and #4 ranked teams in the current poll. Based on the write-up, Denison struck first and had the 1-0 lead at the half, but the Falcons came back with 3 goals in the 2nd half, two by Annie Futato. Very good to see the Falcons scoring 3 goals against top-tier competition. Offense has always been the Achillies heel when the big games roll around.

I thought Stef Rowe had looked pretty good in the Gettysburg game, and it looks like she and Annie Futato are getting to be on the same page.

Posts: 681 10/04/05 11:05 PM	Big test for the Lady Spartans of York College tomorrow as they travel to Granthom for a night game with the Lady Falcons. Judging by this seasons results it looks like the Lady Falcons should win. (They beat Mary Washington 3-0, while York lost 3-0 to Mary Wash). But you never know, lets go lady Spartans!! Will anyone be at the game to give a report?

Posts: 296 10/06/05 06:57 AM	York came into this game averaging 3.21 goals per game, while Messiah came in only allowing .29 goals per game. Something had to give. Messiah dictated the pace of the game from the start, with most of the first half played in York's side of the field. The first goal came about 15 minutes into the first half. The second goal came just 1:20 into the second half. York did manage to maintain some possession in the second half, but Messiah still maintained the majority of the possession. York appeared to be a good team, but it looks to me like the Falcons are really hitting their stride. Hannah Levesque made her return and started the match. She seems to have recovered nicely, and hopefully will be able to contribute down the stretch.

Posts: 296 10/06/05 09:27 AM	The box score shows shots to be 18 to 1 in favor of Messiah, with York's keeper being credited with 8 saves. Cali Pitchel had 2 assists on the night, and the four goals came from four different players (Fitzgerald, Futato, Horning and Steadman). Rowe and Stevens also had assists on the night. I would think that having 7 different players involved in the 4 goals indicates that Messiah is playing well as a team right now. I thought their spacing and ball movement looked pretty good last night.

Posts: 296 10/12/05 07:28 AM	Messiah 8 McDaniel 0 What can you say about a game with a score like that? Messiah pretty much controlled the game from the beginning. I actually thought they got a slow start offensively, but once the first goal when in (loose ball in the box, McDaniel wanted a keeper interference call) the offense seemed to get on track. There was some light rain at periods, but it did not seem to affect the players on the field. I haven't seen the box score yet, but I'm pretty sure Savannah Stolzenburg had a hat trick.

Posts: 296 10/14/05 08:51 AM	Messiah continued their undefeated streak with a win last night against LVC. While LVC was clearly the lesser team, they looked to be pretty sound defensively coming into the game with a GAA of .96 Savannah Stolzenburg and Stef Rowe each had two goals, one each in both halves. Someone had a blistering shot off the crossbar in the first half, I believe it was Corrie Jones. Next up : Moravian. Hopefully Messiah can stay focused with all the Inauguration/homecoming activities this weekend.

Posts: 13 10/14/05 05:30 PM	Messiah and Moravian have both been quite difficult to score on this season with both teams only giving up 5-6 goals in 11-12 games. Both schedules have been strong. Looks like Messiah's offense has improved since Hannah has returned. Any predictions on the game tomorrow?? Being biased and knowing it is Messiah's homecoming, I believe a 2-1 victory for Moravian in OT!!
