I know it's late in the season (and slightly off topic) but I thought there might be some good discussion about the world's best.

Barcelona most definitely has a chance against Man U. The way they possess the ball is purely clinical. Down a man in the waning minutes of the second leg
against Chelsea they played with such skill. While they were playing with urgency, they remained calm and possessed the ball in the attacking third the way the
French national team that won the world cup in 98 did.
As much as I would like to see Liverpool catch Man U, I highly doubt that coming true. Man U has a game in hand and one of their two remaining games is against a struggling Wigan side. They could potentially stumble against Arsenal in the final game, but it is equally likely that Liverpool drops a game against a much improved Spurs side. I am an avid Spurs supporter for a number of reasons. |

As a passionate Liverpool fan, the optimist in me enables me to still dream of a Premeirship title this year, but honestly it's hard to see United slipping
up enough to allow us to pip it at the end at this point. Before Liverpool's draw against Arsenal, I felt a lot better about our chances, but not any
more. It's frustrating because I think it's clear we are as good as United, but we still are a little short of the season-long consistency and focus
required and minimizing dropped points against relegation-fodder no matter how ugly or last-minute the win may be. But we are so doggone close and only have
ourselves to blame for not being at least neck-and-nack with United if not in the driver's seat. You want to be able to appreciate the progress and being
on the door-step, but the what-if's from all those home draws to clubs in the bottom half do haunt.
As Liverpool fan I obviously hope that Barça finds a way to get the job done. On one hand, I think United's backline (and VDS) can be unsettled by teams that have a go at them instead of playing too conservative or with too much respect. And I think United's midfield can be neutralized with the right personal and strategy. Barcelona has the attack, so that gives hope. But I'm not sure how much of that hope translates into belief on my part. The midfield battle may prove the key in that that could determine which side has "enough" attacking possession and chances. Given Barça's backline and United's couter-attacking abilities, United wouldn't be as concerned if they lose the midfield battle or time of psossession as long as they aren't completely played off the park. On the other hand, with United's much better defense, it will be much more crucial to Barça to have more possession and cracks in the attacking third to try to unsettled and tire the defense and force physical or mental errors. Of course, a Messi or Ronaldo or one of a couple others could decide the game with a moment of brilliance against the run of play. Hoepfully it's a good game for the nuetral fan, with plenty of attacking and creative football, . . . and Barça wins! As Iron Sharpens Iron |

Having lived various places overseas, I've come to have a variety of favorite teams. I'm a big Liverpool fan, SC Freiburg (Germany) fan, and SC
Internacional (Brazil). I also pull for FC Partizan (Serbia) and Juventus (Italy).
Why these teams? Liverpool FC - In 1993 when I had my own apartment right out after college and had cable and was able to watch European soccer for the first time, I was looking for teams to follow. When me and my girlfriend broke up in early December, my "parting gift" was the then current Liverpool away jersey (jade green Adidas with the huge 3 stripe over the one shoulder). She already had a friend in a study-abroad semester in London buy a soccer jersey (no particular team) for my Christmas present, and since she had no other use or interest in it, I got it despite the break-up. So I paid more attention to Liverpool and was attracted by Steve McManaman (sp?) and Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush and decided Liverpool was my team. Despite flattering to deceive throughout much of the 90's, everything I learned about the club and its history kept me hooked to the point of no return. I've was fortunate to have made one trip to Liverpool taking in a league win and CL loss (ugly loss to Valencia, then coached by guess who? Rafa Benetiz), before moving to Brazil and becoming too poor for international travel. SC Freiburg - Lived for 8 months in southern Germany on a short-term missions team, 1994/95. The nearest 1. Bundesliga team was in Freiburg and just 2 weeks after arriving in Germany this small, low-budget club in just their second season in the top flight recorded a historic 5-1 home defeat of big-bad Bayern München. That was enough for me. My choice became everlasting when they actually made a challenge for the Bundesliga title that year (eventually settling for 3rd, just 3 pts behind champs Bor. Dortmund) and when I hitch-hiked to Freiburg during the snowy Christmas holiday and loved the city. On two of numerous return trips to Germany I managed to swing thru Freiburg on game day and buy tickets on the street and stand on the terraces of Freiburg's Dreisam-Stadion. SC Internacional - In anticipation of my trip to southern Brazil for my brother's wedding in 2003, I figured I should choose a favorite team from among the two huge cross-town rivals in Porto Alegre and become an informed fan. The choices: the Tri-Color (blue-black-white) of Grêmio (Ronaldinho's Brazilian club) or the red of Internacional (Pato's Brazilian club, and Dunga and Taffarel from the 94 WC champs, and back further Falcão). Between the similarities with the red-blue Liverpool-Everton inter-city rivalry and the fact that my brother's now in-laws were Inter fans, I went red. Being that I met my future wife on that trip and later moved to Brazil, I ended up having the joy of cheering on Inter from the standing terraces in their quarterfinal and semifinal home legs in their run to the Copa Libertadores title in 2006 (couldn't get tickets to the Final) and then watching their upset of Barcelona (and Grêmio-product Ronaldinho) in the final of the Club World Championship on a huge screen in the middle of Porto Alegre with thousands of other fans. FC Partizan - During my 1-1/2 years volunteering in post-war Bosnia, I adopted the favorite team of my sports-crazy colleague: Partizan of Belgrade and cross-town rivals of perhaps the more know Red Star (European Cup finalists in 1993, last year before the war). It's was an interesting choice for a few reasons. (a) With the break-up of Yugoslavia, Partizan wasn't in the same country where I was serving (Bosnia), but there was virtually no professional "fudbal" going on in Bosnia at that time yet. (b) Me, a conservative; Partizan, a big "communist" club. And (c) I was working in the Croat-Muslim confederation half of divided-Bosnia in a city that had been ethnically cleansed by the Serbs before being liberated, and now was choosing a team from the Serbian part of former-Yugoslavia. At least Partizan wasn't the pet club of the new war-criminal regime (they choose a small borderline 1st division club and made them into a champions a few times before their ouster), but it is home to hateful ultra groups (not a problem unique to them or Serbia, for sure. Italy, anyone? But it's significance hits a bit closer to home given my experiences and relationship in Bosnia). Juventus - Not a strong favorite with a any personal tie, but a favorite nonetheless. Just picked them to NOT go with the then favorite A.C. Milan who was taking ruling Europe in the early 90's with Dutch trio of Gullit, Van Basten, and Rijkaard. But what's not to like about the club of del Piero and before that Baggio, two of my favorite players of all-time. As Iron Sharpens Iron

Interesting read!
I do not have a high level of international travel, having only traveled to the Netherlands. I did catch a Utrecht FC game so I guess I am a fan
I have been rooting for Fulham and and Everton because of Dempsey and Howard. I am always interested in hearing why people support certain teams. Especially after this past weekend I think that Liverpool will have to wait until next year unless there is a complete collapse by Man U..... I agree with Keeper06 about Barcelona having a chance. I think that they match up better with Man U then they do against Chelsea (who I consider to be a more physical team), but I believe that they have a number of their preferred defensive players out for various reasons. I think Barcelona is in for a tough game. |

Looks like Wigan is up 1-0 in the first half on Man U.
Sounds like it is very wet/slippery, wonder if it will hold up! |

....and Carrick for presumably the winner in the 87th for United.
That should all but seal the regular season. |

Anybody have predictions for the Champion's League final tomorrow? I'm gonna say Man United 2-1 with goals by Ronaldo and Vidic. Henry picks up the
goal for Barca.

Looks like there is a 'play' button on the right there for a livecast? The bookies have this game as an even draw I believe....makes no sense. I will go against common logic and say Barcelona takes the game 2-1 with Manchester having the better of the play. |

I love it. Barca 2- Man Utd 0. Just love it! I think this proved to be true. The ManUtd back line was unsettled at times and could have given up more goals. And Barcelona (Iniesta e Xavi) really bossed the midfield most of the game. As a result their makeshift backline really wasn't tested as much as could have been the case. As Iron Sharpens Iron |

Not really europe/professional.....but did anybody catch the US against Costa Rica?
Also, for the central PA folks, this upcoming Tuesday the Harrisburg City Islanders will be hosting the Reading Rage in the US Open Cup. Harrisburg has been playing really well, but Reading has been scoring lots of goals. Definitely worth a trip IMO. |
