All Americans - POY Candidates |
Lead | ||

Since the season is winding down, who do you think will be up to receive All American honors? Who will be in the running for Player of the Year?

I can only comment on the teams that I have seen play, but here is the list of players that I think will find spots on All-Region teams with some of them
making All-American status.
1. Medialle College-24 Kendell McFayden (6g 2a). On Medialle's roster it has him listed as F/D, but I saw him play CB versus Messiah. He was a great defender (fast, stepped well, positioned well) and caused Messiah's forwards havoc all night. 2. Montclair- 10 John Esposito (12 g 8 a). I saw him play in the sweet 16 matchup versus Messiah. I felt that he was their dangerous player (along with #8 ) on the attack, but also did a good job of linking the backline and forwards up top. 3. York College-8 Jon Ports (11 g 10 a). I think he might have been the best forward/attacking player I saw all year. Very dangerous on the dribble and has a great motor. I would think a definite 1st team All-American with a possibility at POY. 4. York College-5 Trey Good. Left back that attacked well from his position. Also, a big, strong defender. I don't know if he will be all-american but I would think atleast all-region. 5. Messiah College-3 Geoff Pezon (19 g 10a). So far scored 19 goals from a midfield position. Integral part of Messiah's attack. 6. Messiah College-12 JD Binger (3 g). I would say he is the best defender that I have seen all year. Very good at all aspects of the game. I think he will be the POY. 7. Messiah College-25 Josh Mull. Like Trey Good from York, he attacks well from his position. Also, a very good defender with his speed/quickness. Might not be an all-american, but hopefully he will make all-region. |

Here are a few
JD Binger (Both AA and POY) Josh Mull Geoff Pezon Jon Ports Evan Scheffey Those are just some names that I have seen this year that I feel should make it. Mull had a great year this year and I feel he deserves to be up near the top of the list for best outside backs in the nation. |

Loras will have 2 for sure. Miguel Bonilla and Santiago Mejia.

No way Loras has two. Clearly you are biased for Loras and I respect that because you obviously have some tie with them, but if you answer truthfully two from
Loras is not happening. Miguel Bonilla I will give you but there is no way that Santiago Mejia makes it as well. Geoff Pezon should be a near lock in as well
as JD Binger from Messiah. Jon Ports from York was a key factor in their regular season dominance. And Kendall McFayden should also be a near lock. He was the
main headache for Messiah in their NCAA tournament game against Medaille this year.

Daboyz, obviously you are new to D3soccer.net so where do you get your reasoning how are you so sure Loras won't have 2. Do you see anywhere that is states
"first team" All American in this thread. Loras had 2 AA (second team) players last year and Santiago was one of them, so yeah there is a way.
Santi's stats last year were 5 goals and 17 assists and this year he has 5 goals and 15 assist with games (plural) left to play. Might want to do some
homework before posting.

I think its safe to say that both Bonilla and Mejia should get AA recognition (as well as Binger and Pezon). I have seen all four guys play a few times this
year and they are all deserving to be on one of the AA teams.
Isn't Bonilla (18 goals I believe) the IIAC POY? And I am pretty certain that Mejia leads the nation in assists so far this year...Pretty solid numbers achieved in a very competitive conference, and against strong non-conference compitition. Plus 2 Final Four appearances in a row. I know it maybe a hard concept for some, but there are teams out there other than Messiah that have more than 1 exceptionally talented player. |

I would agree with you Kickin95. I have not seen these two guys play yet (except youtube clips), but the fact that Mejia was an AA last year, Loras'
repeated Final Four performance, and that Bonilla had 18g 4a to lead this team would seem more than enough for Loras to deserve two AA's. Also, Bonilla had
a solid freshman year (8g 4a).
I'm excited to see this game. Seems like Loras has a skilled attack that will look to go forward. |

When we the last time a defender won POY? JD Binger is a prime candidate for it this year! I would say that either him or Jon Ports will take the honor! |

The last defender to win national POY seems to be Williams' Dana Leary, in 2006.

Matt Borland from Wittenberg, too (as an AA, not POY). He was 3rd team last year, IIRC. and he was just named conference player of the year for the 2nd
straight year. and his team go to the tourney this year (and he played well in that game, with 1g, 1a, though also received a red card).
I'd, as of now, have to give my vote to Ports for player of the year, no offense to JD (as I haven't seen him play yet this year).

AA Candidates (1st, 2nd, or 3rd team) for the guys I've seen play:
JD Binger - Messiah Geoff Pezon - Messiah Jon Ports - York Evan Scheffey - York Chris Ports - York Kemal Nuspahic - York (only a freshman, but man I thought he was good) John Esposito - Montclair Joeseph Cullen - Montclair Matty Carlson - Hopkins My guess for POY is Binger. If Dana Leary (center back from Williams) got POY in 2006 over Kai who led his team to their third straight title, I have my doubts that Jon Ports will get POY this year. He will definitely be the leading candidate next year however. It just seems this honor usually goes to a senior and that is why I think Binger will get it. |

POY tends to be skewed toward seniors. With that in mind, my vote goes to Binger, unless there's some super-outstanding player on a mediocre team out
there, or one of the Trinity studs had a phenomenal year. Dana Leary had a lower profile than Binger (in notoriety only- that guy was HUGE!) and still managed
to get a deserving nod, Binger surely has the best shot, especially with a Falcon win on Friday.
Go Falcons! Send "KICKIN95" kickin stones across the parking lot as he shuffles back home early after a duhawk loss! |

Well, if someone scores 2, they'll certainly win alright.
39-0-3 combined when allowing 1 or fewer goals 1-6-0 combined when allowing 2+ Incredible. |

My pick for POY is Pezon....
The last time a Messiah player had 10 GW goals, he was the POY....

Jeff Pezon is a wonderful player at this level, perhaps the best overall attacker we've had for a few years, and I wouldn't be too surprised if he wins
a POY award -- but not as a sophomore. Nor am I convinced that he's better now than the Ports brothers of York (though he's probably as good as either
one), one of whom is a senior. (There are probably other players I should also name, but I'll stick with those two b/c I've actually seen them this
year.) More to the point, Jeff is probably not the best player on his own team: that would be JD Binger, who is also a senior. If the Falcons end up with the
POY (which is always a possibility, in years in which they make the Final Four), my vote would without hesitation go to Binger over Pezon. They've both
been important to us, but Binger even more so. IMO.

Binger all the way | #19 | ||

I think with Messiah going to the Final, Binger almost has to have a wrap on this. Add in the fact that he pulled his team away from defeat against CNU, and I
think he deserves player of the tournament too. Pezon's been amazing this year. If not scoring on his own, then creating opportunities for his teammates
to score. But I have to agree with MessiahProf, as good of a season as Pezon's had, there's no way he'd get the nod over Binger because Binger has
put in 4 solid years.
I say unless Binger punches the ref in the face tomorrow and single-handly throws the game, he deserves and should be the player of the year.

Johnson & the attacking CM from Stevens are both getting All-America shouts. Both were dominating in the Amherst game, and both scored the heck out of the
messiah rearguard.
After seeing Binger in the Final 4, he definitely gets my POY nod. The boy should be looked at by A-League teams, that is for sure. |
